As a way to introduction, Capital Area Technology currently is the leading seller of semiconductors and industrial manufacturing parts on the internet across various sales channels including eBay and Amazon.
We’re used to seeing some happy endings at WebMavens, but none so magnificent as the one when Capital Area Technology decided to name the Custom Web application* that we made for them “Agapao”; a greek word which can be translated as “love” in English.
They really, really love it!
The story begins in 2013, with our first instance of interaction with them. And frankly, we were amazed, at the fact that they had employed a staff of about 20 people, back when eBay used to be the only platform they sold on.
The software system they used to employ was “concordis” which was based on the filemaker, which always needed a developer dedicated to monitor its workings. Along with that, the company had a dedicated staff of
A programmer
A Sr. IT Head
A person especially dedicated for ebay listing
An order fulfilment person
A customer Services person
A complete dispatch department
And many more…
All of these besides the fact that the company was doing no where near as good as its true potential would allow them. It is quite seemingly obvious that with the so called “need” to manually supervise over the entire process, there was always a massive chance for human errors to occur. And most of all, technology that is inefficient by itself, well if we’re allowed to be brutal about it, is moot.
Eventually, by 2015, their resources started to exhaust (predictably) and their shift to automation became imminent. Now the grave task was to revitalize a company that was drying up on all fronts. Not only did it need dedication and ingenuity. It also needed trust and friendship. The shift, of course, took time and severe efforts. But eventually you’ll see, it all worked out for the best.
Initially, the system that we custom made for them would take over “Item Cataloging” and organize products in a systematic, useful way. In this process, on the first stage, we imported data if about 30,000 products from Capitol Area Technology. This was the beginning of the end of concordis filemaker system.
A year and a half later, our new system completely took over the business, with complete automation extended to ebay, web and Amazon, the requirements boiled down to only 3 personnels
